Bert hauled out all the anchor chain yesterday, all 89 meters of it, plus the anchor, he stretches it all out on the dock, then repaints all the measuring spots, every so many meters, yellow first, then red, the paint stays on for about a year, you can tie little ties to the chain too, but other boaters told us that they all break off, eventually, so paint it is!!!! Here in Brentwood bay, we are surrounded by green, trees, bushes, flowers, and every spring ,they all bloom, and emit pollen into the air, it is a fine green powder, i get sick from it, my face swells up, eyes, ears, it all itches terribly, so i go into hiding, until the pollen stops, the boat is green, and i mean green!!! everything has a coating on it, Bert just hosed her down, and washed her,but this morning, after the rain, yup! you guessed it, everything is green!!! My little bonsai is thriving, i love the new little leaves, so tender and soft, the two pots of pansies are blooming, amazing, as they just sat there, all winter long, really the toughest flowers !!!! Tomorrow we head out for a bit, direction North, we just go, no idea where to, the weather is suppose to be beautiful, maybe head to Cabbage island…….
Its Easter Sunday, and its raining, but thats ok, as i can see blue sky to the North!!!! I have been trying to write to everyone and wish them a joyful day, but this way seems to make more sense. We are taking the boat out tomorrow, but a few days, she needs to stretch her legs so to speak, and i love the bays in Spring time, there are many hikes we can go on, to have a look how the wild flowers are doing, i have not seen any Fawn Lillies, yet, those beautiful little flowers that look like little umbrellas, they usually come out at Easter…… I drove up to the Comox valley, to see our daughter Karen and family , and their new puppy, Penelope, a Spaniel, brown and white, she is totally adorable and oh so smart!!! Karen’s garden looks lovely, all kinds of flowers are popping their heads up , the trees are blooming, the air at night , is full of the song of many frogs, it is such a good sign that they are still there, frogs are a big indication that nature is still healthy!!!
THERE IS ONLY PEACE TO BE FELT
ONCE AWAY FROM CITIES AND ROADS
SLOWLY MAKING MY WAY THROUGH THE TREES
BIRDS SOUNDING THE ALARM;
THAT I AM HERE!!!!
THEN, OCEAN SALT IN THE AIR
COMING TOWARDS THE BEACH
WATER LAPPING AT MY FEET,
AND THE ROCKS,FIRST GREY
THEN A DEEP BLACK.
BUT BACK IN THE FOREST
THE SILENCE CREEPS IN
A SNAIL,HOUSE ON BACK,
SLIDES WITHOUT A SOUND
LITTLE EYES TURNING,
THIS WAY AND THAT,
ON MY HAND,JUST THE HOUSE NOW
SLOWLY ,EYES COMING BACK OUT
HE REVELS IN THE WARMTH OF MY HAND
WHAT A JOY
THIS LITTLE BIT OF LIFE!!!
A poem by Mejan March 10 2016
I have been keeping to myself a lot since the trip, actually just enjoying being on Curtsy, with her warmth and comfort, i love my mornings, Gribley, “my” gull, flies in around 7, waiting for his treat, but i now have a new gull, “SPUD”, this is a young fellow, from last spring, he even still has his baby face, i call him Spud because he likes potatoes!!!!!!! This is totally weird , as gulls hate potatoes, but maybe he just doesn’t know any better just yet…… he has no fear, as yet, sticks his head into the boat, through my porthole in the galley, and looks around, waiting for his treats. He pays no attention to Gribley, who has a total hissy fit, because this young gull seems to taking all his treats, it is very entertaining to watch!! Then there is Jaytoo, the older, wiser bird, he does not show up till the evening, when it is almost dark, all the other gulls have long gone, so, how smart is he???? He stays till well after dark, a very bright, white bird,he already has his summer plumage. So, that is what keeps me busy, we are planning to get a kitten, and i can just imagine what will happen with the birds, they wont like it a bit, but hopefully they will get used to him!!!
Last night,March 9th and today ,march 10th,we are bombarded with quite the storm, the Northern parts of the island, and the sunshine coast, have many power outages, plus there is a very high tide this morning, i took some photos of the charts on passage weather, the one storm, from last night and early this morning, has hurricane force winds and is located in Juan De Fuca strait, not far from here. Our stove blew out, then came back on with a loud bang, it has a fan underneath, which i then turned on, it helps , but once we went to bed , i turned it off , i wont sleep when its blowing, i lie there , listening to the stove, and everything else for that matter, Bert sleeps very well, i guess he knows i will be alert!!!!! Being first mate is a tough job!!!
All the trees in Victoria and in Sidney are full of blossoms, i love the soft pinks, the whites, plum and cherry trees, it only lasts so long, and right now we are having another storm, tons of rain, high wind, it is so hard on them, the Japanese cherry trees are not out yet, so hopefully by that time the weather will be warmer again, with not so much rain. My little bonsai is showing its leaves, very carefully i might say, but i keep it in the cockpit as soon as the weather gets too wild. Over at Vanisle marina, the Magnolia is blooming!! Beautiful white blossoms, wrapped in soft ,protective petals. I love this time of year, it is healing, a new beginning, the greens are so vivid, so bright, it feels sometimes just like it is all too much to take in, all this beauty, so overwhelming. I visited the marigold nursery, where an old , black and white kitty followed me all over the place, i took photos of the colors, of the variety, the primulas are hard to resist, i do have some on the boat already…..
Because of the diet i follow, check it out if you like: http://www.whole30.com i have to be very careful what kind of goodies i munch on, i am usually always hungry, so it takes all my will power to NOT grab some “bad” stuff. I can have almonds, i roast them myself, dried fruit without sulphites, but now i have found the most incredibly snack, Bert and i fight over the last pieces, so, here is the recipe, and a photo of what they look like.
1/2 CUP ORGANIC, COLD PRESSED COCONUT OIL, MELTED
1/2 CUP DUTCH PROCESSED COCOA POWDER.
1/2 CUP ALMOND BUTTER
2 TBSP. OF HONEY THE RECIPE ASKS FOR MORE, BUT YOU DONT WANT IT THAT SWEET.
1/2 TSP.VANILLA FROM MEXICO……IF YOU HAVE IT..
1/3 CUP OF ORGANIC UNSWEETENED COCONUT
Melt the oil, put all ingredients in a bowl, stir very well till blended, try not to taste…… you will lick the whole bowl clean, pour carefully , with small ladle into little muffin cup papers. Chill in fridge, before chilling, you can also add an almond or two.
After everything was done top side, Bert cut up new insulation, to glue into all the small spaces, we did wait for a few days, during heavy rain, if all the leaks were gone. It all looked good!!
