I think these are the flowers of the Soap Berry bush, i have looked at approximately 8 web sites, and cannot find anything about this wild bush. The roadsides here are lined with them!!!!

Ladyslipper Orchid

Exploring some wonderful, little parks, here, in Brentwood bay.

My friend Rita took me to the first park, it is called  Gore nature park, and is located very close to here.      I had no idea what to expect, but what i saw was a little piece of heaven, a gorgeous small park, open areas covered in Camas flowers, in between all the purple stood small pink Sea Blush, here and there some oxeye Daisies showed themselves, some being shaded by young Garry oaks, all the Arbutus were blooming, their scent mixing with the soft smell of the Cotton wood trees standing nearby.   There are Shooting stars, the odd Trillium still left, and further down the small path , i found two Ladyslipper orchids.    Birds were singing everywhere, what an amazing spot to discover, thank you Rita!!!!

Art projects that i love to do,while living on the boat.

I keep busy with all kinds of projects on Curtsy, there is the constant cleaning, trying to stay ahead of the weather damage, since we put the tarp overtop of the cockpit, the cockpit cover is staying much cleaner, it is already 10 years old, most of the tread has worn badly, but bit by bit we replace it.     Our friend Vaughan, who owns a canvas shop in Sidney, has helped out too, his machine is super duper industrial, and flies through the old canvas.   his business  is located on Harbor rd.in Sidney, right next to Waypoint marine.  His business is called :Marine Canvas Works .    marinecanvasworks.com

Back to what i was talking about.     I love making jewelry, and just finished a project for a friend’s birthday.   you can see this on : http://www.blissfulbeadingonaboat.wordpress.com

For the last 13 years, i have also been collecting art affects in nature, i pick up shells, rocks with holes in them, seed pods, glass, and special items.    I have been hanging them in the aft cabin, using natural rope and wool.     here are some photos to give you an idea, it might be a fun project to do this for kids .

Meanwhile, back to Curtsy….

We have been cleaning and scrubbing, i decided to clean the teak toe rail, it was black, some places even a dark green, just looking very dirty and bad.     So, i hauled out my trusted cleaner, “Kleen Glo”, which is now called :all purpose Natural Cleaner, non toxic, non abrasive and bio degradable, and started scrubbing,  a foot at the time, and from underneath came an actual teak color, not seen for a long time, we decided to let it dry well and then put several (6) coats of Cetal on the wood, we had already put that on the window frames and the vent boxes and handrails, and so far they are staying just beautiful, it has been 3 years.   The weather was perfect for it, dry, warm, so Bert started with the applications, standing in the dinghy for the one side, all 84 feet of wood!!!     It looks awesome, and now matches the rest of the wood, well worth the hard work!!!!

Primary leaves of cilantro, today, 3 days later, they are well above the edge of the container and now boast secondary leaves!!! Next week, some go into the salad !!

Its time for the micro greens…..

THis is for those of you who wonder what i use to grow the greens, and where i keep them.   I love doing this, as they give us fresh greens continually !!     I will start with some photos of the seed packages i buy and the containers i use, and then the soil ,cant very well do without that!!    Jane, i hope this will give you an idea for on your boat!!!!

I buy a potting soil that is sterilized and has all the essential nutrients already in it.

I use old salad containers, its a great way to recycle and they are sturdy enough. Make sure to punch holes in the bottom, you can use the lid as a saucer.
