Haul out day, June 1st, to tackle those barnacles and sea weeds!!

The tide has to be right for our 6.6 draft, so they timed the haul out for 13.00 hours.    Once we arrived there, the crew took over, and all we could do is watch……But are those guys ever efficient !!    They had no hesitation as to where to put the slings, they were careful and very professional.      Once the boat was out of the water, one of the guys, Noah, power washed her keel, and scraped off the barnacles on the prop , no wonder we had quite the vibration in the aft cabin when under way!!!!        The best way to show and tell you the story is with the photos!!

So, we turned around, went back, Curtsy has two heat exchangers , one for the engine, and one for the hydrolic system.        Once we were at the dock, he went and took both of them off, and bought two new ones, they are not too expensive, he then brought the old ones away to an outfit in Victoria that cleans them out and checks them.    Its a good feeling to have spares.    We made a new date for the haul out, June 1 st.

lady bugs, dinghy trip to Squally reach 045

Part of Curtsy’s engine room, everything has its place, Bert can actually sit in it very comfortably , depends on the job to be done…..

Now , to get back to the barnacles, i am talking about the ones making a home on our prop and keel.    We had a haul out scheduled for May 3.      Bert chose Canoe Cove, the haul out equipment is new there, plus we like the crew and general  atmosphere, they gave us 2 nights free also on the hard.      So, away we went , early morning, we were barely past Senesus Island when the engine buzzer went off.    Great!!!  now what???    i had a (bad) feeling all night, didnt sleep, (women’s intuition ), Bert is actually starting to pay attention to that now,  (hah), anyways, engine overheating, we shut the whole thing down, floated about a bit while he checked things down below, once the engine started again, and the rpm stayed low, there was no problem, so we knew it was the amount of salt water cooling intake.     Time to take a look at the heat exchangers!!!!

Star fish, barnacles and sea weeds!!!

Its been a long time , but here i am again!       we have been busy to say the least, and time flies as you all know!!    The weather has been awesome, from very hot, to warm with a lovely breeze ,to one day of rain, (badly needed), all in all, just great to be on a boat!!

Bert took the dinghy down from the stern, and we toured around the bay and into Squally reach, the sea life looks very healthy there, lots of star fish, the purple ones are back in full force, lots of little ones, looking very healthy, we think that they might have had some sort of virus the last tow years, which seemed to kill the weaker ones , but the strong ones keep on going and this might just strengthen the species.     This is just my idea……..
