We were sure hoping for warmer weather, wow, was it cold in Johnstone Strait!!!! On the 28th, we headed into Sunderland Channel , then Wellbore Channel, heading towards the Whirlpool Rapids. We were not sure if we would be on time for the rapids, if not, we would anchor in Forward harbour. But we had no problem at all, and aimed for Blind Channel Resort after the rapids. The idea was that i would bring the boat in, i usually do, well, little did i realize that the tide runs the opposite in front of Blind Channel resort, so we aimed for tying up on starboard side, that just didnt work at all, the tide just took Curtsy and swung her nicely to port side , but, there were no fenders there, plus no lines ready, there were no boats in any of the docks, good thing, i would have smucked them all!! So, out again, try again, this time port side, well, this time it took Curtsy’s stern, and just twisted me nicely around the dock!! Time for the Captain to take over, i had enough. But… the captain had trouble too, thank goodness Eliot , the owner came running by this time, we must have been quite a show.!!!!! The ocean water at the resort is crystal clear, just gorgeous, i took some photos to show you.
It is a wonderful place to stay, the old dog is still there, lying in the sun, definately getting on, he is very sweet. In the afternoon, i noticed Eliot and his wife and two friends standing on the shore, all staring very intently towards the shore, in the bay,and here is a beautiful Brown bear, with her two cubs, all a dark chocolate brown, grazing on the new grass and sniffing on the beach. They paid no attention to us whatsoever!! Eliot told us later that all the Brown bears on West Thurlow island are brown or cinnamon colored, no black ones!!
