Its a wonderful old city, build in the Middle Ages, when it started as a harbor and fishing village. On the 9th of April 1356, Enkhuizen received her city rights from Duke Willem V. Buriel hills have been found around the town , dating from 1575 to 1200 B.C. The first harbor was dug in the 14th century. Its wonderful to walk through the town, all the tiny streets, beautiful old houses, and tiny little alleys. here is one, called “tussen hel en vagevuur”, which means, “between hell and purgatory” Another is called, ” de kromme eleboog steeg”, which means , ” the crooked elbow alley”.
