On April 2nd. we headed to Holland, it was time to go visit Bert’s and my family, plus this was a good time to leave the boat for a while. We headed for Enkhuizen again, a wonderful small town , with lots of history, a wonderful harbor, full of wooded sailboats and the BEST B&B ever!! We stay at ” Appelo”, a B&B in the Breed straat, wonderful old house, wonderful friends, and the breakfast is superb!! From our bedroom window, we overlook the old , red tiled roofs, with the large masts of the sailboats in the back ground. The tall tower of the old Zuiderkerk or Saint Pancras church stands above it all, the bells toll every half hour, with a lovely tune, lulling us to sleep, or waking us at 8, ready for the awesome breakfast. The building of the church began in 1423, and the church was finished in 1524. The organ in the church is from the 16th century, and the carillion, in the tower contains 52 bells. The carillion gets new tunes , twice per year. The “speel trommel” an automated music programmer which plays the bells, is from the 17th century.
Sounds beautiful. Want pictures please.
